“A dynamic addition to the New York skyline.”
30 Hudson Yards is not a standalone architectural icon, but an integral part of the complex system that forms Hudson Yards. The development has stitched together the historically broken fabric of the far West Side, creating a mixed-use district on a platform of artificial land over an active railway yard.
The team for 30 Hudson Yards had a balance of men and women, with many women in leadership positions. As a large team working on an incredibly complex project with many parts and tight, overlapping schedules, effective communication was of the utmost importance. While cliched, the women on the team facilitated open and easy communication at all levels and between teams.
30 Hudson Yards, the fourth tallest office building in New York City, features 360 panoramic views, outdoor terraces, a triple-height lobby, and direct access to the No. 7 subway line. It is also home to Edge, the highest outdoor observation deck in the Western Hemisphere. The Class-A office tower features varying size, efficient floor plans- across the height of the building, the building shifts from a side-core configuration at the lowest levels to a centre-core further up the building, the form of the building adapting to the different spaces required.
It was designed as a pair with 10 Hudson Yards, the two towers tilt in opposing directions engaging in a purposeful dialogue with one another. Across the development, the buildings are connected by a shared approach to services, sustainability and resilience. An unprecedented integration of buildings, streets, parks, utilities, and public spaces combine to form aconnected, responsive, clean, reliable, and efficient neighborhood.
Features include a first-of-its-kind microgrid, generating electricity as well as hot and chilled water for the neighborhood in a highly efficient way. As a result of this, and other measures, Hudson Yards is the first LEED Gold Neighborhood Development completed in Manhattan.
