Over the past 10 years, About the Work, a New York City–based, woman-owned and woman-led firm, has served as the owner’s representative for Green-Wood’s new welcome center, the Green-House at Green-Wood, slated to celebrate its ribbon cutting in spring 2026. Located across the street from the Main Entrance at 25th Street and Fifth Avenue in Brooklyn, the Green-House combines the restored Victorian-era Weir Greenhouse with a new building, creating a stunning 20,400 square-foot structure that provides a welcoming space for Green-Wood’s 450,000 annual visitors. The Green-House allows for an introduction to the historic cemetery before exploring the grounds, as well as room to house two exhibition galleries for its extensive archival collection. From its inception, this project was shaped and driven by women at every level. About the Work functioned as an invaluable extension of Green-Wood’s voices and values,
advocating on their behalf as their strongest champion from the seed of an idea
through to the completion of the $34M project. The project was led by Faye Premer, the firm’s Founding Principal, who has extensive experience in architecture, nonprofit development, and project management. Faye led
a talented team, including Mary Hanna, Former Principal; Neha Sabnis, Project
Manager; and Alissa Countryman, also a Project Manager, each contributing essential leadership during the design, permitting, and construction phases. Their collective guidance fostered a project culture where women’s perspectives shaped decision-making, risk mitigation, and a shared commitment to design excellence. Drawing on the expertise of premier architects, engineers, and construction professionals, many of whom were women in key design and technical roles, About the Work laid the foundation Green-Wood needed to bring its vision to life. The firm previously led the award-winning restoration of the historic Green-Wood Chapel, which was honored with the 2021 Excellence in Historic Preservation Award from the Preservation League of New York State.
