Beverly Lorraine Greene, the first African American woman licensed as an architect in the U.S, undertook renovations of this existing Harlem neighborhood funeral home. The building later gained major historical significance: in 1965, after the assassination of Malcolm X, more than 30,000 mourners passed through Unity Funeral Home during a two-day wake, making it a focal point for collective mourning and political reflection in the Black community.
