Marvel collaborated with the Hudson Companies to design One Clinton, a modern residential structure that blends with historic Brooklyn Heights brownstones and the dynamism of Downtown Brooklyn. The project was led by women designers, Lissa So founding partner of Marvel, who led the overall design; Danielle Cerone of Marvel, who led the design of the Brooklyn Public Library; Sally Gilliland of The Hudson Companies, who led design for ownership; Susannah Drake of DLAND studio, who designed the landscape; and Kate Gray of Studio DB, who crafted the interiors. Their work reflects a holistic, community-centered approach that unites architecture, landscape, and interior design into a cohesive beautifully designed civic landmark.
Clad in limestone and bronze, the minimalist façade of One Clinton resonates with the materiality of Brooklyn Heights brownstones while addressing the scale and vitality of Downtown Brooklyn. The building’s distinctive triangular form responds to its site at the junction of Cadman Plaza Park and Clinton Street, where it offers unique views north to Manhattan, southwest to the harbor, and east to brownstone Brooklyn.
At the base, the Brooklyn Heights branch of the Brooklyn Public Library occupies 26,620 square feet with 20-foot ceilings and flexible, light-filled spaces for learning and community gathering. Along Clinton Street, a four-story limestone volume aligns with the surrounding historic streetscape, housing the residential lobby, retail spaces, and access to a community facility below grade.
Above, 134 condominium residences rise over forty stories, visible from the Brooklyn Bridge and Lower Manhattan. Residents enjoy amenities including a lobby, underground parking, a 26th-floor sky lounge, and a 2,000-square-foot fitness center with sauna, hot tub, and yoga room. Outdoor spaces include a 3,500-square-foot terrace with sundecks and grills, a children’s play area, and a residents’ library and media lounge—creating a dynamic, welcoming environment celebrating community and modern urban living.
